I found this Fantastic article about hybrid cars. I really think this kind of auto is what we're going to need in the near future.

The Known Facts About The Hybrid Cars
By Danny Green

A hybrid is a vehicle that gets its energy power from two different sources, and a moped is a fine example of it. It has a small petrol engine, and pedals. The petrol engine and the pedal power from the rider provide the power to it in two ways. You can see diesel electric buses as well as submarines in some cities.

For a long time now, the hybrids have been in use. This technology has also been used in the cars by the automobile industry. Carmakers are turning to hybrid technology because of the rising fuel costs, and growing green house gas emission. The most popular hybrid technology being used in cars is petrol-electric. The car is powered by a petrol engine, and electric motor.

There are different ways in which automakers have chosen to use these two power sources in their hybrid vehicles. The two commonly used ways of combining the power of the gasoline engine, and electric motor are called parallel hybrids, and 'series hybrids. In a parallel hybrid, there is a petrol engine, and an electric motor, and both independently provide power to the transmission that turns the wheels of the car.

Batteries charge the electric motor, and the gasoline engine is fed with fuel. In some of the models of hybrid series, the petrol engine charges the batteries and in turn, it drives the electric motor. Power to the motor is provided by the electric motor, so that it powers the transmission that propels the car. However, most commonly parallel technology is used in cars.

The engine of a hybrid car is smaller, and lighter than that of conventional cars. Therefore, the fuel consumption is less, and so are the emissions. The lighter and smaller engine in a hybrid car achieves the same performance of a similar car with the help of the electric motor. When extra power is required, the electric motor provides that power.

When the hybrid cars travel below thirty miles an hour, then these cars uses only the electric motor for power. The petrol engine starts up and provides the power when the accelerator is pressed for more power. The electric motor acts as a generator, and charges the batteries when the car coasts, brakes, or stopped at a traffic light. Start/stop technology is also used in some hybrid cars, which mean that when the car is stationary, the petrol engine is switched off.

Hybrid cars are lighter in weight, and advanced aerodynamics is used to reduce drag. Low rolling resistance tires are used in hybrid cars to reduce drag. These tires are inflated to a higher pressure, and are stiffer than conventional tires. This reduces their drag. Lightweight materials are used to reduce the weight of the car. Carbon fiber is now being adopted by more, and car manufacturers to reduce the weight of cars.

Aluminum and magnesium is also being used to reduce weight. Hybrid cars are selling well, as more and more people are buying them. Hybrid cars consume less fuel, emit less emissions, and there is no reduction in performance. Almost all car manufacturers are adopting hybrid technology in some of their cars.

When you take care of your car you will be less likely to have to dig in to your savings for Utah auto repairs. With the economy being the way it is currently it is more important than ever to keep your car in great shape. Here are a few suggestions to keep your car at its best.

1. Only go to qualified Utah auto repair technicians when you need work done. Just like we need qualified doctors to work on us, a car needs a qualified Utah auto repair technician to work on it. A good mechanic can be a great asset in keeping your car in its best shape.

2. Do not put off getting your car repaired, especially when you have warning signs ahead of time. If your check engine light goes on don't ignore it - get it checked out. Putting off repairs when something is wrong with your car can cause serious damage to your car and will end up costing you a lot more money.

3. Take care of dents and dings that happen during drives. Keep the outside body of your car washed and taken care of. This will keep the value of your car up, and prevent issues from forming, such as fading or rusting.

4. Keep on top of your car's fluids. Routinely check your car's oil and coolant. Use your car's owner's manual to get to know your car and find out when the best times are to replace oil. This will give you a good idea on when you should take your car in to a Utah auto repair shop for maintenance work.

5. Keep the right amount of pressure in your car's tires. Rotate the wheels to keep them in top shape. Repair any leaks in tires first to see if that solves any pressure problems with your wheels. This can be a cheaper alternative than replacing the entire tire.

6. Clutch's go through a lot of wear and tear and are usually not covered under car insurance. Take it easy with your car's clutch. If your clutch goes in your car you will more often than not have to pay the entire expense out of pocket.
